Ditch the Lable: Find the Real

Hello Sunshine

Hello Sunshine and welcome to this brand new season of our podcast. In this new season we are hoping to share with you new stories, maybe new anecdotes, new ideas, new conversations. That’s what this new season is going to be about. And so today I want to really ask all of you, are we what we buy?

You know, does that define who we really are?

Increasingly people around us are obsessed with labels, designer brands, status symbols and curated appearances. Almost everyone is conditioned to believe that who we are is defined by what we wear, what we own, where we probably go out for a holiday or how we present ourselves to the world.

And in the middle of all of this, everyone seems to have forgotten how to be real. And you know what? Real cannot be bought. Real cannot be curated to show off. Real cannot be adorned like an expensive accessory. Because real is not a brand. Real is honesty. Real is a vibe.

You know the real game changers in society, the real heroes, don’t really rely on brands and labels to define them or their work. Their presence speaks loud. Their work, their passion, their dedication, that’s what they bring, that’s what defines who they are, that’s their signature.

Every time now I look around, I see so many of us just looking for external validation. Literally chasing external validation. Too many people are dressing up their insecurities and their lack of confidence, to be honest, in designer labels.

But what no one is really addressing is that being real is not about what you wear or what you own or what car you drive. It’s about what you embody. It’s about who you are inside. Real does not chase attention. It commands it. Real is never loud because real is an energy.

You know, it’s only when you have the courage to be real, to be yourself and be exactly who you are and when you know that you’re not really looking for validation from the outside, whether it’s the brands that you think you need to carry or the logos that you need to show off or seek that approval from others.

You realize that being real may also mean that you’re imperfect sometimes. That you show up with your flaws. You show up just the way you are. But isn’t that why we’re here on this planet? To be real. Not to be perfect.

People find it very difficult to ignore what’s real. Because you know, it’s rare and honestly, being real is not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s not easy and it’s definitely not for the weak-hearted. I sometimes wonder, do people really chase labels or status because of their fear of being irrelevant?

Maybe they use these brands as an armor or as a kind of a shield, hoping it will make them feel more confident, worthy, respected by others. You know the truth is, all of this, the worth, the confidence, the respect, all of it comes from within. The real power is being grounded in who you are and no amount of external validation will make you feel more valued.

Because it all begins with you. And that in itself is very liberating. Freedom from being caged into any particular slot or position. Freedom from this perception that you think people have about you. It frees you from constantly having to validate yourself or to show up in a certain manner. So don’t be afraid of it.

It’s people who don’t have an identity of their own who’ll not like you because you do. And when will you have an identity of your own? When you show up just the way you are. Confident. Maybe imperfect sometimes. Maybe a little rough on the edges also sometimes. But who cares? You are showing up just as you are in that real manner.

You know at the end of the day always remember labels fade because trends come and go. Status symbols mean nothing if you feel lonely and empty on the inside. And the most valuable thing you can carry within you is your essence, your truth. Being real is your label. So wear it with confidence because there’s nothing outside that can define you.

Take good care of yourselves and we’ll speak to you again next week. Bye for now.
