The Tremendous Power of Vulnerability

We all have a certain amount of magic inside all of us. We may not remember it or we may sometimes numb it out because it seems implausible to us. But you know we all can claim that magic inside us. The first step towards claiming that magic is to have the courage to show up in a vulnerable manner. Vulnerability is powerful.

On a TV show, Oprah was asked what she thought vulnerability was.

And she defined it as the ability to be able to have the courage to show your soul so others can show their soul too. And that’s what it’s all about: opening up your heart space to allow others in. The truth is, there is no emotion that you have had that is foreign to others. But what matters is that you actually show up.

Show up just the way you are and be brave enough to show up with all your flaws. Doing something fearless, not scared of criticism, speaking up about what matters, speaking up about how you feel, what you feel.

To pick up the phone and say sorry to somebody that you would have done something wrong also requires a tremendous amount of courage. If you have had a rough time due to a breakup or a failed business, don’t stop yourself from getting out and meeting people.

If you can show up when you achieve something, don’t be afraid to show up when you have failed. If you can talk about your happy moments, it’s ok to talk about the sad ones too.

We are very often scared to talk about the horrible moments; we are scared of being belittled or made fun of, but remember, you are wonderful; it’s your good and bad stores that make the book of your life so unique. And remember, when you accept your flaws, you understand that others have flaws too. Somehow, through the process of rupture and heartbreak, you learn to be more aware of people’s pain. And who knows how your story may actually help someone or actually be a guide to someone?

It’s actually a brave thing to do. Be that wholehearted person. Be the person who lets people be themselves, and that way they feel safe to be vulnerable.

Let me share this quote with all of you: “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”
